Train Like Astronauts! Astronaut Training will prepare you for the final simulated missions that you will do toward the end of camp. Astronaut Training is divided into four different sections that you will complete before your Mission. Take a look below at what your training will look like!
Astro Toys One of the coolest thing about being an Astronaut is all the awesome toys you have to play with. Get a sample of what real astronauts play on before going into space. Take a spin in our gyroscope and experience weightlessness like they experience in outer space. Turn up the jets to feel the G-Forces astronauts experience while taking off into space. After you're finished with the gyroscope move on to Newton's Chair! A ride where you and a buddy are strapped into chairs then spun around. Feel centripetal force while you complete activities testing the force's effects. Move into a world where everything is weightless! Step into SMOP (Simulated Microgravity Operational Platform). A testing ground where you will experience what it is like to work in the confines of outer space with little gravity! Experience what it might be like to bounce around on the Moon with little gravity. Step into our Astro-Bounce House where you will bound from spot to spot! You never thought training could be so much fun! | |
| Microgravity NASA astronauts train for space walks in a giant swimming pool in Houston called the Neutral Buoyancy Lab. Train in a smaller version of the NBL here at Astrocamp. Float “weightless” and conduct true microgravity experiments in our large swimming pool. You and your friends will have the mission of putting together a satellite while floating in the pool. Once you complete your section, the whole team will have to put it together and raise it out of the water. |
EVM Valles Marineris on Mars is the largest canyon in the solar system – five times wider and deeper than the Grand Canyon! During Expedition Valles Marineris, you will be transported to our research station on Mars and will have the opportunity to take on the huge rock faces of Valles Marineris for yourself. Once you are strapped in to your harness, you will climb to heights of over 50 feet while overcoming Martian obstacles on your way to the top. You will also get to use M.I.R.A (Mars Interactive Research Assistant) which is equipped with touch screen monitors that will allow you to learn more about Mars through interactive games and information! | |
  | AstroMissions All of your training has led you up to this point. It's time to go to outer space and put all your skills to the test. Your AstroMission is an entirely interactive experience where you control what's going on! You will either be given the Astro Lab or the Quest Lab. In the Quest Lab, you and your team will explore the surface of an unknown planet by manning remote rovers. Your rovers will scout out water and soil samples that you will then bring back to the lab to investigate. In the Astro Lab you and your team will be traveling to the Moon and back. Each camper has a specific job that they must perform in order for the mission to be a success. Try to find new life on the moon by exploring its surface on a space walk and experimenting with lunar samples in the onboard lab. |
